Origin of birthstones can be tracked down to the breastplate of Aaron that had twelve crystals representing each of the twelve tribes of Israel. Over time, this was translated into months of the year assigning each month different birthstone crystal.

It doesn't matter if you will choose to believe or not into legends and myths surrounding gemstones for millennia. Where is smoke - there is fire! Traditional birthstones are associated with ancient traditions and contain crystals that are selected for each month of the year. With the Bible story of Exodus and mention of the gemstones that were on Aaron’s ceremonial breastplate, crystals become more popular. At first, those crystals represented Israel tribes but over time this was translated into months of the year. 


In the 15th century, mentioned crystals from the Bible gain huge popularity in Poland and people started wearing those crystals. At first, every person had owned all 12 crystals and wore each one on its selected month. Over time this custom evolved into what we have today. 


January - Garnet
